THE SPACE ABOVE

A debut album by the acoustic chamber trio “The Space Above” – interpreting early and contemporary classical music and blending folkloric and impressionistic influences in their very own way. By combining the spontaneous and open sensibilities of jazz and the richness of colours found in classical music, this record presents an undeniably unique musical space – a new way to tell an old story.

The trio features three young and well established improvisers from the Copenhagen scene of creative music: the Bolivian flutist Flavia Huarachi, fusing her indigenous andean roots with classical training through concerts and albums with Orchestra of the Americas, the award-winning Polish pianist and composer Artur Tuznik – known for his expressive style of playing, through his successful albums as a leader and numerous cooperations on the European jazz scene, and Simon Albertsen – a Norwegian drummer, coming from punk and metal, moving into jazz and improvised music with bands like WAKO and Espen Berg Trio.

CASCADES

CASCADES is the first album to document several years of collaboration between the Danish saxophone veteran Thomas Agergaard and the Polish pianist Artur Tuźnik. A meeting between 2 artists from different generations and musical worlds, but with a clear artistic approach to explore the sound together.

The album consists of 10 works both improvised and partly spontaneously composed by the duo. From the strong melodies, abstract structures, impressionistic harmonies, to modal sound and minimalism, the musicians move around the borderland of what is known as a classical, jazz and folk music. The material was recorded in the DKDM Concert Hall in Copenhagen, the former Danish Radio, which became a significant factor in the process of shaping the music. The incredible history and acoustics of the room definitely played the role in defining the sound of CASCADES.

Artur Tuznik TRIO

The new album Artur Tuznik TRIO features prominent individualities with established position on the European scene for jazz and improvised music. Together with Davidsen and Høyer, Tuznik introduces a darker sound inspired by impressionism, Scandinavian avant-garde and Slavic folk music.

Minimalistic compositions, often with open forms, highlight strong melodic sense and rich harmonic language of the leader. With original music, virtuosity, experience and unique voice of all three personalities, Tuznik presents a great band capable of merging intense energy, spontaneous improvisations with lyrical, almost meditative ballads.

"I have listened to this album many times, and it's not possible to get it out of head. Tuznik has a zone of an alluring calm and
adventurous contemplation in his playing"

"One of the most interesting albums of young Polish jazz - perfectly played and corresponding in a beautiful way with what we, in today's jazz, call a creative, original concept.
